After watching the film, let me honestly review it on certain parameters.
- Idea- "Giving a man a fish and you can feed him for a day; show him how to catch a fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."
- It was a wonderful idea to make this simple yet heart touching short film. Abdul Niyas- the concept writer and Tharmar- the Director deserves much of my applause for presenting this concept. The story depicts a man aging around 55, begging for his survival on a footpath. Few people were giving him money in his container. But a man who was passing the beggar saw him and went away thinking something. When he reached his own house, he searched something in his cartons. Then the other day, the same man went to the beggar and kept a weighing machine in front of him, weighing his own body and paid some money to the beggar. Seeing the machine in front of the beggar, people started weighing themselves and paying money to the beggar. The idea of the film is wonderful. Also, the idea to shoot this film entirely on Smart Phone device makes me to applaud this film even more. Anyone who thinks that they are not able to make films because they don’t have a DSLR, must be motivated to work if they watch this beautiful piece.
- Cinematography- This is one of the most important aspects of Film Making. In my opinion, the cinematographer, Director and Producer all did a commendable job (Director and Producer have roles to monitor everything). The shots of the film are very good and is of good video quality too. The home scene was shot in little less lighting but it didn’t lack much of a quality. Yes the DSLR or a Cinematic camera would have given a better quality, (sharpness, color balance, low light enhancement and more) but overall the quality stood its importance.

- Directing- As mentioned above the Director did a great job, but by not only guiding the cinematographer, but also leading the overall project to a success. This short film is without any dialogue and yet it is a very beautiful and powerful film. I honestly didn’t felt the need of dialogues as the concept was presented in a crystal clear manner. Music is the second thing which didn't let me feel the need of dialougues in the film. Well the music is much impressive in all pertaining situations and it beautifully added on to the story’s message. Making great films through Smart Phones needs some great efforts too and you can also achieve these results by only making films. (But no need to make films right now my friends as you have to first take care of yourself and fight against Corona virus. Currently, keep your excitement of making films under control and follow what your government says).
- Editing- The editor, who is generally in touch with other project handlers, also did a good job in editing the video. Ajmal Soby, the editor might have done editing work on computer software but he has done a great work. The shots did follow and complement each other which pleased my eyes and helped me to stay connected with the story. Also, music is well chosen and compiled with the film.
Every person who worked for this short piece did a wonderful job and the film deserved to win that 2nd prize in Dubai. I will rate this short film at 4.5 out of 5.
I will be reviewing another short film in my next blog. Stay tuned for more.
